The day was spent dragging hoses and wringing towels.  We drained the waterbed.  I came to the conclusion that 8 patches on the same spot was the magic number and we could no longer fix the mattress.  We drove out to the only waterbed store that we know of, some 25 miles away.  We bought a new liner(if we had know they were so inexpensive, we would have bought one years ago and avoided the water spot on our kitchen ceiling)and a new mattress.  The total came to just a couple of hundred dollars.  To think of all the time and mess we have put up with patching that old bladder aka mattress!  I was under the impression that it would be at least a thousand dollars to remedy the situation.  I'm very pleased!  A nice warm, DRY bed now in which to recuperate.

The mattress fiasco meant additional loads of laundry.  I have done 4 of them so far today, and I haven't started any that contain actual clothing.  Just sheets, towels, blankets and such.  I know what I will be doing tomorrow.

I started some seeds for the garden today.  I'm new to this entire seed thing, so I don't know if I'm starting them too late for our climate.  I may very well end up with flowers come October.  I probably should have started them in February, but we didn't have a garden then and I sorely lacked motivation.  I simply HAD to start some morning glorys(ies?).  I remember my grandmother had some growing up the light pole at her house.  I love their shade of blue and the big blossoms.  The hummingbirds enjoy them also.  This year I planted some in the new garden and I put up a small trellis in hopes of them covering it.  I started the seeds in a seed tray and by the time they start to grow, the danger of frost will be minimal.

Anyone know the secret to growing lilacs?  We dug some up from the woods many years ago, and while they get leaves, they never bloom.  Dennis also bought me one a few years ago and that one too, has never flowered.  All around my town is evidence of old abandoned houses and foundations with lilacs seemingly growing wild.  The flowers are gorgeous and the fragrance delightful.  Meanwhile, mine have just leaves.   Maybe I should have simply bought a house with an established garden?

Tomorrow I must finish the laundry, and I'd really like to go to the garden center again.  Even if we don't buy anything, it's so pleasant walking around in the greenhouses.
