I now have 4 job bids pending at the Emerald City.  I submitted another bid on an Admin. Asst. position today.

Weather:  Sunny, mild for this time of year.  We need rain!. Our rainfall is 15" below normal.

We have our new dishwasher, washer and dryer.  We had a delivery window of between 10:00am and 2:00pm and surprisingly they arrived before 10:00.  The installers were professional and polite and they knew their jobs well.  We had paid extra to have them hook up the dishwasher and they got right to it and it works fine.

Earlier in the morning Dennis had attempted to remove the old dishwasher prior to their arrival.  We never succeeded in removing it and the end result is a silver dollar size hole in the linoleum in front of the dishwasher.  Our kitchen floor is a mess anyway.  It’s gouged and cut in many places but this is the first hole in it.   Replacing the floor is on our house wish list along with a new roof and windows and carpeting.  Someday it will get done but for now, a bit of duct tape and a small decorative rug will remedy the situation (Martha Stewart eat your heart out!)

After we swept up the floors (I hate to tell you what was under those appliances these past 16 years) we went out to visit Dad.  He looked good today.  He was dressed and alert and sitting up in bed.  My Aunt Louise was there (remember her?) but thankfully Dennis was with me to act as a buffer.  She wasn’t too bad.  She started to get on my case about something but we managed to change the conversation and it went in a different direction.  I brought Dad his Oreos and he sent me off to find him a cup of coffee.  He spent the next 20 minutes or so dunking his cookies and thoroughly enjoying them.

His nurse told me that they have slightly increased his anti-depressants and he has shown an improvement.  He was joking with her when she went by in the hallway.  He didn’t seem as nasty and miserable as he normally can be.  I think he should have been on them for most of his life and maybe he would have been more pleasant to live with.

When we returned home, I tried the washer and dryer.  I’m not sure if I like the washing machine.  The agitator seems small to me and the clothes don’t move about as much as the old machine moved them.  The old machine would swish and turn everything so that dirt didn’t stand a chance.  Of course with some loads, it would move so vigorously that the machine would actually start to creep across the floor.  It had a mind of it’s own and I was used to it.  I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with the new one.  It’s just different.  The agitator is slower and smaller and it simply asks the dirt to leave.  I guess it’s a kinder, gentler, new millennium appliance.  I will say that they all are much quieter.

This morning before we left the house, I was clever enough to start a pot roast in the crock-pot.  I’m getting good cooking those beasts.  They are moist and flavorful and Dennis actually enjoyed it and told me so.  Someday I’ll finally get this cooking nonsense down pat.  Tomorrow it’s turkey.

Today I am thankful for:

1:  Our new appliances.
2:  Low fat sour cream.
3:  Big Y grocery stores.
4:  Hot coffee enhanced with just about anything.
5:  Cucumber-melon scented candles.
