We
started a garden this year in the back yard now that Sammy dog is no longer
out there. The shape of the garden is how as a child, I remember
my Grandmother's garden in Old Saybrook, CT. Grandma's garden was
more in the shade so we have chosen a different variety of plants than
she had in her's. I think she'd like our choices.

Here are some photos of the garden in the early morning sun at the end
of May. Look how the trees have filled with leaves!

Here is how the garden appears now in mid-August. Almost all of the plants have taken, but I think that the peony is lost. It never did grow or bloom, and it's leaves are now turning a rusty orange. I'm going to leave it in place until next year to see if it comes back. Maybe it just didn't like the move this year.
I've added a few plants as the pansies have died off. A pretty fragrant tall garden phlox. Another that resembles an astilbe, but I can't remember it's name. We've had so much rain lately, there are rubbery looking mushrooms at the bases of many of the plants.
The Oriental Lilacs did bloom this year and made me very happy. I can only hope it wasn't just luck and that they will do it again next year. I've already trimmed the Forsythia and it could use another haircut. It shoots out long branches in all directions making it look very leggy.
I
never did move those flagstones.
