It's 7:15am and the outside temperature is -6 F.  It could be -8 F but it's so low that I can't see the thermometer well without actually sticking my head out of the kitchen door.  Whatever the correct temperature is, it's too damn cold to do that while I'm still in my pajamas.  Last night the wind was howling and I don't even want to imagine what the temperature was with the windchill factored in.

It makes me so very thankful to live in this day and age when the home heating only requires me to flip a switch or turn the thermostat.  Can you even imagine living through this weather 150-200 years ago?  Having to continuously haul and chop wood to keep the stoves and fireplaces going.  The houses back then were so drafty in the days before insulation.  Think about using an outhouse in the early morning hours!  Water would have to be drawn from the well and that would be after you had broken the ice on it.  Food would be scare too.  I don't know how they survived.

A good thing about this weather is that our garbage is frozen and doesn't smell or attact the woodland creatures.  See, there's always a good side to everything.

I just finished a bowl of hot oatmeal.  I love oatmeal and cream of wheat.  They makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.  I feel about 8 years old sitting here in my flannel pajamas.  I needed to eat it because I went out to fill the bird feeders a few minutes ago and I got a chill.  I was out there for less than 10 minutes but the cold just sinks into your bones on day like today.  Even my hands were numb and I wore my gloves!

I lost 1.4 pounds this week but I don't count it as it was a "re-loss" of the same weight that I lost over a year ago.  Does that make any sense?  I mean that I have gained about 9 pounds in the past year and I'm struggling to "re-lose" that and then continue on to my goal.

Later...

My, my the temperature has risen to a balmy +10 F.  I'm really getting tired of this weather, and I normally like cold weather.

Dennis and I ventured out to an indoor flea market that we had never been to before.  What a dump!  It wasn't worth the 45 minute drive to get there.  It was in a drafty old stripmall and I swear it was colder inside there than outside.  We didn't buy anything and nothing seemed even remotely interesting.  Never again.

We came directly home, had some lunch and we both promptly fell asleep.  I haven't taken a nap in quiet some time.  I always feel like I'm wasting time if I take one but today I was so sleepy that I nodded right out.
