I almost quit today.  It's only my third day back and already I'm not sleeping at night.  I must hang in and be certain that all of those medical bills get paid.

While driving my hour commute this morning, I analyzed why I hate this job so much.  In my opinion, Postal workers go "postal" because they can never get a sense of accomplishment.  The job is never finished.  The mail keeps coming.   My job is like that also.  I think I'm finished for the day but the phone rings and its for a shipment that's been lost or some juice spoiled or the wrong type of Danish pastry was received and the chef is having a meltdown.  My day is never done.  No matter how well I do my job during the day, the next day is chaos again.  Someone will scream at me for something that is out of my control.

Control.  That's it.  I have no control over my job.  I do what I'm suppose to do and still it's not right and it's not enough.

We had a big problem as soon as I walked in the door this morning.  No one ordered juice and danish for a banquet tomorrow morning.  The order was received in our department on June 23.  T's father passed away the end of June and she was out for 2 weeks.  #1Boss wanted to know why I hadn't placed the order.  I almost said to him "because on June 23rd I was at the hospital, lying on my back with my tits in the air!"

This type of thing happens each and every day.  Chefs running around screaming at us and then they get #1Boss all worked up into a lather and he starts to scream.  And let us not forget the swearing.  Imagine every vulgar, 4 letter word that your mother would be shocked to hear.  Now pepper your conversation with those words no matter to whom you are speaking.  Never mind that it can be taken as sexual harassment, no one will act on that.  This is the environment that I work in every day.  The term "professional" is lost on them.

The big crisis this week is Connecticut OpSail.  Hundreds of thousands of people are flooding into southeast Connecticut to see the tall ships.  And after they see the ships, the visit the Emerald City.

I really hate that job, but at least now I know why.
